National Teach-In On Climate Change

Recycling opportunities at Illinois State University are continually improving - increasing the acceptable commodities and recycling locations. ISU, the TechZone, and the Town of Normal have combined forces to make recycling more accessible to all students, faculty, and staff on or near the Illinois State campus.
A Town of Normal recycling drop box has been placed to aid recycling convenience for our off-campus students, faculty, and staff. The box is located in a green commuter parking lot just north of the Bone Student Center pay lot. All fraternities, sororities, and students/faculty/staff living off campus are encouraged to use this recycling location. Acceptable items include mixed paper, cardboard, and co-mingled plastic/aluminum/glass.
A new recycling location on the second floor of the Bone Student Center has been placed to prompt passersby to recycle their dead batteries, cell phones, and toner cartridges. These recycling kiosks are located directly outside of the entrance to TechZone. Additional toner/cell phone kiosks are also available in the lobbies of Manchester Hall and the Carter Harris Physical Plant Office. Also, any member of the Illinois State community is encouraged to drop off used and unwanted electronics at TechZone. These electronics are given to the Town of Normal where they are then sent to Peoria and refurbished for low income families.
Currently, the collected materials for the University Recycling and University Housing Recycling programs include, but are not limited to, plastic, aluminum, glass, cardboard, mixed paper, books, batteries, toner cartridges, cell phones, and electronics. In the past few years, Illinois State University has both reduced its waste and increased its collected recyclable materials.
Each residence hall on campus has a recycling drop off location. Most residence halls recycle mixed paper, plastic, aluminum, glass, and cardboard. Contact your RA for specifics on where, what, and how to recycle in your hall.
Each academic building has a recycling program. Look for recycling centers in hallways and lobbies that are complete with containers for mixed paper and plastic/glass/aluminum. Each office should have deskside containers for recycling. If you are a faculty/staff member without recycling opportunities in your office, please call 438-SAVE.
The Bone Student Center has recycling centers for plastic/glass/aluminum and mixed paper. A drop-off location for cell phones, used ink cartridges, and batteries is located outside of TechZone on the second floor of the BSC. Bring your unwanted electronics into TechZone where they will be recycled by the Town of Normal.
The Town of Normal and Illinois State University provide off-campus students with a recycling drop-off location in a (green) commuter parking lot on the corner of Locust Street and Normal Avenue. These locations provide recycling for mixed paper, cardboard, and plastic/glass/aluminum. All students and community members are encouraged to use this drop-off location.
For more information on any of these drop-off locations, call (309) 438-SAVE (7283).
