What is Sustainability?
Sustainability at Illinois State University is an evolving process which enhances quality of life and meets economic, social, and environmental needs of the present without compromising resources for future generations.
At Illinois State, this is accomplished through teaching, research, service, and administrative efforts that benefit our various communities.
What is the Green Team?
In April 2000, Illinois State University President Victor Boschini appointed the Environmental Task Force (ETF) to assess the extent of the campus' environmental impact and to make recommendations to the President and the Executive Committee of the Academic Senate for minimizing that impact. Based on the recommendations of the Environmental Task Force the Green Team (GT) was officially created in 2001. The current campus administration, led by President Al Bowman, has continued to support the mission and efforts of the Green Team.
All four vice presidential areas of campus are represented on the Green Team along with faculty, staff and students. The GT puts together an annual report to highlight ISU’s accomplishments in energy efficiency, waste reduction, and environmental education and outreach as well as its goals for the next year.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month from 1:30 - 2:30pm in the Spotlight Room in Bone Student Center. We encourage all interested members of the ISU community to attend the monthly meeting and/or participate in a subcommittee.
As the cold weather approaches, now is the time to think about how to save money on your heating bill. Your furnace will run more efficiently if you change/clean your furnace filler. Also, the air will circulate better if you vacuum out your vents and registers. If you are changing out your furnace filter, think about switching to a reusable filter it may cost a little more up front, but it will save you money in the long run and it will be one less thing that goes to the landfill.
